Keeping the children safe
In Thika we have both a Children’s Care Centre and a specialist Baby Unit.
Our Care Centre gives temporary accommodation and care to 16 critically vulnerable children.
Our Baby Unit currently cares for 14 babies and 6 pregnant teenagers.
The majority of the babies have been abandoned.
Many have physical disabilities, or other conditions, such as Down’s syndrome.
Most of the teenagers are victims of rape or incest.
We give them all a safe environment where they can be cared for and given the health and well-being support they need.
When they are ready we look to re-integrate them into their families or communities or to seek their adoption. Over 30 children have been successfully reintegrated to date.
