Run for Kenya's Children
Kenya has given the world its greatest marathon runners. In 2026, we’re inviting runners around the world to give something back.
Run for Kenya’s Children unites three iconic marathons: Berlin, Chicago, and Dublin with one urgent mission – supporting over 1,600 vulnerable children who rely on Kenya Children Centres for daily meals, education, shelter, and care.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I apply for a place? A: Click the "Apply" button for your chosen marathon (Chicago or Dublin). This takes you to our RealBuzz application page where you'll complete a short form about your running experience and why you want to run for KCC.
Q: When will I hear if I've been selected? A: We aim to respond within 2 days of receiving your application.
Q: What are the selection criteria? A: We look for commitment to fundraising, a genuine connection to our mission, and a realistic training plan. We welcome both experienced marathoners and first-timers.
Q: Can I apply for multiple marathons? A: Yes – although we would advise just one per year (to avoid fundraising fatigue)
Q: I missed the Berlin deadline - can I still apply? A: Berlin 2026 is fully subscribed, but we plan to offer a larger number for Berlin places again in 2027. Register your interest by emailing eventsteam@kenyachildrencentres.com
Q: How much do I need to fundraise? A: The minimum fundraising commitment is £1,900. 100% of what you raise goes directly to supporting vulnerable children in Kenya.
Q: What does my £1,900 fundraising provide? A: "Your fundraising supports our feeding programmes, education initiatives, and care for over 1,600 vulnerable children daily. Specific impact details will be shared once you're selected."
Q: What if I don't reach my £1,900 target? A: "Runners are offered a place on the team when they pay their registration fee (£100 or less) and officially registered to run when they reach 50% of their pledge. We work with all our runners to help them reach their target through fundraising guidance and support. If you're putting in genuine effort and fall slightly short, we'll work with you on a case-by-case basis."
Q: When do I need to have the funds raised by? A: We ask runners to reach 50% of their target by June 30, 2026, with the full amount raised by race day. This helps maintain momentum and reduces stress as race day approaches.
Q: How do I collect donations? A: We use Give2You as our fundraising platform. Once selected, we'll help you set up your personal fundraising page where people can donate securely online. You can also add offline donations (cash/cheques).
Q: Can my employer match my fundraising? A: Yes! Many employers offer donation matching schemes. Check with your HR department and let us know - we can provide any documentation they need.
Q: Do I have to pay for my flights and accommodation? A: Yes, all travel and accommodation costs are your responsibility. The guaranteed marathon entry and our support is what we provide in exchange for your fundraising commitment.
Q: Is there a registration fee? A: Yes, there's a £100 registration fee (reduced to EUR60 for Dublin) once you're selected and accept your place. This secures your marathon entry.
Q: What's included in my runner package? A: You receive:
- Guaranteed marathon entry (no lottery!)
- Official KCC running kit (vest/shirt)
- Training guidance and tips
- Fundraising materials and support
- Regular updates from Kenya showing your impact
- Connection to our international Team KCC community
Q: What training support do you provide? A: We provide training guidance, nutrition tips, and connect you with other Team KCC runners for motivation and advice.
Q: I'm a first-time marathoner - is that okay? A: Absolutely! We welcome runners of all experience levels. If you're committed to training properly and have time to prepare (6+ months recommended for first-timers), you're welcome to apply.
Q: What happens if I get injured during training? "If injury prevents you from running, please get in touch with us as soon as possible. We'll work with you to either defer your place to the following year (where possible) or reallocate it to another runner. We ask that you have made a reasonable effort on fundraising before withdrawing."
Q: Can I run with friends or as part of a team? A: Yes! If multiple people from your running club or friend group want to apply, you can coordinate and run together as part of Team KCC.
Q: How will I know my fundraising is making a difference? A: Throughout your training, we'll send regular updates (at least monthly from May 2026) with photos and stories from Kenya showing how funds are being used. After the marathon, you'll receive a detailed impact report.
Q: Can I visit the projects in Kenya? A: "We welcome runners to visit our programmes in Kenya, though this would be arranged separately and at your own expense. Contact us after your marathon to discuss visit opportunities."
Q: What if I need to withdraw after being selected? "We understand circumstances change. Please contact us immediately if you need to withdraw. If you withdraw before 15 July we can reallocate your place. The £100 registration fee is non-refundable, and we ask that you transfer any funds already raised to KCC."
Q: I have more questions - who do I contact? A: Email eventsteam@kenyachildrencentres.com. We're happy to answer any questions about the programme.
